At Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals, I became GuyWithGreenHair, and it was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. At Beer Works, a fellow patriot handed me a tube of green hair gel, and I couldn't pass up the chance to make a lasting statement about my love for the Boston Celtics. I felt a rush of energy and exhilaration run through my body as I smeared the colorful stuff through my hair. Fans were pointing and cheering as soon as we stepped inside the arena, and even complete strangers approached me to snap pictures. More than just a show of fandom, my transformation into GuyWithGreenHair became a representation of solidarity among Celtics supporters. Even after the game ended in victory, I continued to wear green in my hair for every game I go to, reliving the thrilling energy that comes from feeling connected to something bigger than ourselves.
